More to know about custom canvas
Should I use mirrored edges, stretched edges, or image wrap for canvas prints?
Mirrored edges are useful when you want to preserve the full front image without cropping, while stretched edges can distort details and are usually less suitable for artwork with people, text, or geometry.
Can I use the same artwork file for different canvas sizes?
Yes, but only if the aspect ratio matches. Changing from one proportion to another can crop parts of the artwork, so each size should be checked individually before publishing.
Keeping important elements away from the edges also gives you more flexibility across multiple canvas sizes.
Do I need to extend the background of my artwork for canvas printing?
Often, yes. If the original image does not leave enough room for the canvas wrap, extending the background helps preserve the original composition without stretching or cropping important elements.
This is especially useful for photography and artwork with subjects near the edges.
Will very small text and fine details print clearly on canvas?
Yes, but canvas texture affects extremely fine detail more than smooth poster paper.
Bold typography, photography, illustrations and artwork with clear contrast reproduce well, while very thin lines, tiny lettering and highly intricate details may appear slightly softer once printed onto the woven canvas surface.
For artwork where extremely fine detail is essential, keep important elements comfortably sized rather than designing at the limit of screen resolution.
What resolution should my artwork be for a large canvas print?
For large canvas prints, 150 DPI at the final print size is generally a strong target, while smaller artwork viewed up close benefits from higher resolution.
Canvas is more forgiving than smooth photo paper because its woven texture naturally softens extremely fine pixel-level detail.
Printseekers canvas sizes go up to 200 × 100 cm for stretched and gallery canvas, and up to 240 × 120 cm for rolled canvas, so using the highest-resolution source file available becomes increasingly important at the largest sizes.
